fanfic: mr. rabbit, mr. rabbit
Very obsessed with gaming at the moment ;A; I CAN'T CONTROL MYSELF ANYMORE. Just the other day I was at Kino, and bought this manga called Lamento (IMPULSE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE) and when I went home I realised HEY ISN'T THIS A BL GAME. Insert mad dash for the computer.
Anyways, LAMENTO IS THE BOMB. The epically longest and wonderfullest visual novel so far ;O; I don't even know where to start - the art, the thick plot, the beautiful, lovely music - KONOE <333
Togainu no Chi was kinda nice, too, hahahh. But it's not really my type, ahahahahahhh...BUT IT WAS STILL NICE. Keisuke wrenched my poor heart ;A;
AND AND AND FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON TWEWY. FINAAAAALLY ;A; And - it's so addictive ;~; RHYME'S SO ADORABLE, JOSHUA'S FABUTASTIC, NEKU'S CUTE, AND AND AND. Trauma Center is fun, too ( *V*) Never played anything like it before.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, nerrin ♥ ♥ ♥

And, at long last, the D.Gray-man ficcy I've owed since foreverrr. I'm not very up-to-date with the story, forgive the canon errors if there are any, and. Well. Inserted as much fluff as possible, and, AHHHH kinda fail ;A; ;A; ;A; I HOPE YOU LIKE IT, fantasia0829 ;_______;

The title is totally lacking creativity, but I'm kinda rushing, I'll be somewhere in China for about a week or so ;A; FLIGHT'S TONIGHT NUUUUUU NO TIME TO EDIT I THINK THE HTML IS ALBEIT CRACKY BUT I'LL FIX IT WHEN I'M BACKKK ;A; BYE GUYS STAY HEALTHY <333

Title: Mr. Rabbit, Mr. Rabbit, for fantasia0829
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Lavi/Kanda
Warnings: general lameness, crack, fluffy-ish, umm...
Summary: "What's that?" "Ah. Rabbit." "Rabbit?"

Lavi knows, hardly anyone fights as well with an instant-size-changing hammer like him, and Kanda’s skill with a sword is second to no one, but nobody could have predicted – nobody, nobody, he wants to emphasize – that some inhuman person would be so horribly, cruelly tactless as to litter the ground with fresh, impalpably yellow banana skins (three of them, haphazardly discarded where Lavi happened to land), resulting in a helplessly skidding redhead, a knocked-over Kanda Yuu, some monstrous, high-pitched screeching, sword-waving and hammer-banging in the midst of the sudden catastrophic confusion.

It didn’t end too badly, Lavi reflects. He got away with scratches and bruises, they vanquished the akuma successfully, and Yuu – well, Yuu – it wasn’t his fault – the banana skins – it wasn’t like he didn’t put them there – there were the akuma to consider, their lives were in danger, really – and, and, and –

“Oi.”

Gruff, disgruntled, a very pissed off Yuu.

“Y-yes?”

Best be polite. Best not to further agitate.

“What’s that?”

He is pointing at some bushes, a few metres from where he is resting on the ground (surrounded by bits of banana peel).

Lavi does not need further instruction to tell him that Yuu wants him to get his ass to the bushes, and find out what is there, so he cautiously creeps to the small, tight ring of bushes, bends down, and discovers one very small, very fragile-looking rabbit lying on its side, breathing shallowly, weakly.

“Ah. Rabbit.”

“Rabbit?” Yuu pushes himself up.

“I think it’s hurt,” Lavi says, scrutinising the rabbit’s bruised hind leg. “Not very badly, though. Maybe we should take it back to headquarters,” he adds, tenderly lifting the rabbit and laying it down by Yuu’s feet.

“Don’t be ridiculous; we don’t run a fucking vet,” Yuu snaps.

“Ahh, you are so stiff as usual, Yuu,” Lavi sighs. “It’s just a rabbit.”

Lavi claps his hands together, smiling brightly – after all, what is with this dark, gloomy mood? – lighten up, guys – at a thoroughly exasperated Kanda Yuu, and one weakly wheezing rabbit.

There is a big commotion back at the Black Order.

Kanda’s leg – ankle – is treated, wrapped snugly in a cast. He sits on a chair, a very deep frown on his face, eyebrows knitted, and glares, intensely, at the science department, all clustered very closely around the sleeping little lagomorph (lying on a bed of papers on Komui’s desk) and Kanda (on a chair next to the desk).

No doubt the phrase FUCK THEM ALL is on replay in Yuu’s head.

“Ahh, but pets are not allowed in the Black Order,” Komui says, looking a tad bit mortified, though Lavi wonders if it’s an act, “even though this one’s pretty small…besides, with you guys gone, there’s nobody to look after the poor thing…as Supervisor, I cannot – I cannot bend the rules.”

“What? Be more flexible; it’s not like we’re planning to keep a Rottweiler,” Lenalee objects.

“Well, if Lenalee says so –”

Ah, so it is an act. Supervisor, you want the rabbit, don’t you?

“We’ll bring it back to where we found it after it’s treated,” Kanda says flatly. “No rabbits here.”

“But –”

JOHNNY, Lavi wants to say aloud, YOU ARE ONE HONOURABLE LITTLE MAN.

“Shut up.”

“But it’s –”

KEEP TRYING.

“Shut up.”

DON’T GIVE UP.

“It’s so cute –”

“You,” Kanda jabs a finger at Lavi, his face expectant, but also infinitely frustrated, “Get me out of here.”

“Wha – what, I’m your personal wheelchair now?” Lavi says, a little miffed, a little amused, “We haven’t finished the discussion about the rabbit, y’know? In fact, haven’t you heard of the magic word a.k.a. plea –”

A scathing glare thrown in his direction, and obediently, very obediently, Lavi effortlessly hefts Kanda up onto his back, wary of the broken leg – twisted ankle, and departs while the science department (and Lenalee) watches, supposedly in ominous silence.

“Wonderful,” Komui’s eyes gleam, “now that the troublesome one (KANDA YUU) is gone, let’s discuss the building of THE HUTCH.”

“You mean we can keep the rabbit?” Lenalee says, positively ready to erupt in celebration.

Reever sighs, pressing his hand against his temple. “Well, Supervisor, you’ll be building the thing yourself, ‘cause I sure as hell ain’t gonna – ”

“SUPERVISOR, I bring WOOD.”

“SUPERVISOR, SUPERVISOR, look, NAILS.”

“MESH!”

“Should I buy straw or hay? Actually, are they the same thing?”

“Ahh, my worthy subjects, such outstanding, dependable men and women,” Komui says, looking quite ready to break down. “All of this, for the rabbit, and me – I – I – I am so touched. Though I fail to meet your so-very-high expectations once in a blue moon, I swear upon my life I shall not let you all down this time. I PROMISE.”

“It’s just a rabbit,” Lavi smiles, uneasily, “is it such a –”

“We should bring it back to the forest tomorrow,” Yuu says, indifferent.

“Ah…okay.”

“…hm.”

“Is your leg okay?”

“Ankle.”

“Is your ankle okay?”

“It’s been better.”

Silence.

Lavi pulls a chair up next to Yuu’s bed, a sunny smile plastered on his face.

“Well – if you need anything, I’m here.”

Lavi thinks Yuu’s face reddens rather noticeably, for a moment, and blinks.

“Something wrong?”

“No!”

Yuu snaps, and throws himself back on the pillows, pulling the blankets over his head.

Lavi smiles pleasantly.

“Ah.”

He wakes up, suddenly, in the middle of the night.

Puffy-eyed, he pushes the sheets off, and sits up. The sky outside is still pitch-dark, and he guesses it’s somewhere in the wee hours of the morning. He swerves his head to the right, wondering if Yuu’s ankle’s oka –

Yuu?

And the drowsiness dissipates in a second, because Kanda Yuu’s not where he’s supposed to be.

At seven, Komui and the entire science department troop out to the canteen – the result of some very solemn group discussion. Why the canteen, you ask – well, it is because Jerry is there most of the day, with always a Finder or two. The rabbit, they decided, needs as much company as possible.

So they entered the canteen in a single file, Komui at the lead, of course, with the rest of the science department after him, carrying huge planks of wood, boxes of nails and knuts, large pieces of mesh, enormous boxes, and…

“What,” Lenalee asks Reever – he is the most sensible of the lot, after all, “are they doing with so many materials? Aren’t they building a small one?”

“Well, you see –”

“ALL RIGHT, MEN. AND WOMEN. AND EVERYONE IN THE CANTEEN, YOU ARE MOST WELCOMED TO JOIN US. WE ARE IMMEDIATELY –”

“Where’d he get that megaphone?” Lenalee asks.

“Beats me.”

“–COMMENCING CONSTRUCTION OF ONE VERY LARGE HUTCH – A PALACE-LIKE-ISH STRUCTURE, IF YOU WILL – FOR THE DEAR RABBIT BROUGHT INTO OUR HONORABLE BLACK ORDER JUST YESTERDAY, IN CRITICAL CONDITION. SAID RABBIT HAS TAKEN UP TEMPORARY QUARTERS IN A BOX (WITH HOLES PUNCHED ON THE SURFACE, WE WERE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THAT) IN THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OFFICE. NONETHELESS, IT CANNOT REMAIN THERE FOREVER, FOR RABBITS NEED FREEDOM. SO –”

“Supervisor!”

“YES, JERRY?”

“If you’re talkin’ about a hutch, the critter’s already got one just fine.”

“COULD YOU REPEAT THAT, PLEASE?”

“The critter’s already got one!”

“ONE WHAT?”
“A hutch! Y’know, house. Home.”

True enough, there is one. In a little corner, near the counter Jerry is standing by. A perfectly normal-looking hutch, made of wood, with nails hammered in, and metal bars for a door. Inside, the rabbit is sleeping soundly on a soft bed of sawdust, a bowl of water, and a carrot set by its side.

“WHA – OUTRAGEOUS!”

Reever plugs an ear, rolling his eyes. “Don’t shout through the megaphone, Supervisor. You’re killing ear drums.”

“ WE WILL BE FINDING THE CULPRIT IMMEDIATELY.”

Kanda stands quietly at the doorway, watching Komui give out orders –

“REEVER, YOU TAKE THE SECOND AND THIRD FLOOR, JERRY, THE CULPRIT MIGHT BE HIDING IN YOUR KITCHEN –” and sighs, contemplating (again) how someone like Komui can actually keep things running properly in the Black Order.

“Yuu,” Lavi calls out in a sing-song voice, throwing his arms around Kanda from behind.

“Get off,” Kanda says tonelessly.

“You did that, didn’t you?” Lavi says, his voice down to a whisper.

“That.” He points at the hutch.

Kanda does not say anything.

“I freaked out when you weren’t in bed,” Lavi says, sobering a little. “I figured you just left for some fresh air, so I didn’t wanna wake everyone up unnecessarily. And when I was passing by the canteen –”

He leans forward more, his arms tightening around Kanda’s neck, his cheek pressing against Kanda’s. Ah, that irritating smile – Kanda distastefully realises he’s picturing it in his head – blinding, sunny, megawatt, so very Lavi.

“You shouldn’t have been hobbling around on a twisted ankle,” Lavi continues. “If you wanted to keep the rabbit, you could’ve just –”
Kanda shoves Lavi off, why, why, why does his face feel so hot? – and glares at Lavi, who is, expectedly, smiling like an idiot.

He wants to say something, but the words are all caught up in his throat, he doesn’t really know what he wants to say, with the truth so bare in front of him, and really no other way around it except that he really did want the rabbit to stay.

“Y’know,” Lavi speaks up, after moments of awkward silence, “I’m kinda happy. I like the little critter. I like rabbits. And –”

He walks towards Kanda, warm hands reaching up and pressing against the sides of Kanda’s face, pulling him closer, closer, their foreheads are literally touching, and –

“I like Yuu.”

His face is positively burning now, his hands shaking as he winds them around Lavi’s neck. The red-haired Exorcist leans forward, down, and close, close, so close, their lips are brushing against each other –

“THE TWO AT THE BACK, BE CONSIDERATE AND GET A ROOM, PLEASE.”
